Professor Eamon O’Shea
Personal Professor in the Department of Economics

Eamon O’Shea is a Personal Professor in the Department of Economics, founder Director of the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology (ICSG) and Director of the National Centre for Social Research on Dementia at the National University of Ireland Galway. His research interests are focused on the economics of ageing, rural gerontology and dementia. His work has been influential in setting the agenda for reform of services and policies for older people in Ireland. Professor O’Shea has recently been awarded a Health Research Board Leader Grant in Dementia. The award will provide the research framework to support the implementation of the National Dementia Strategy. The research programme will investigate cost-effective, person-centred, pathways to care and placement for people on the margins of home care and residential care.
